There, one of our experienced glacier guides will lead you safely through the glacial wonderland of ridges, crevasses and ice formations. Next, the tour continues to Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon where we will take a ride on a Zodiac Adventure boat, whizzing between the icebergs of all shapes and sizes, floating around the clear blue water. After the Zodiac experience, we continue East to the famous Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon where we continue exploring the landscape sculpted and dominated by the glaciers. In 1994, a group of Icelanders with a passion for nature, adventure and environmental advocacy started an outdoor adventure company to take people from around the world on tours of a lifetime. As the originators of the Glacier Walk in Iceland, they revolutionized the outdoor adventure scene. Since the beginning, Icelandic Mountain Guides has been owned and operated by guides and we continue to set the standard in safety, mountaineering expertise, and environmental protection across the industry in Iceland.
We operate from our company headquarters in Reykjavík and our base camp in the beautiful Skaftafell National Park year round. Whether you want to go hiking, backpacking, trekking, ice climbing, on a glacier walk, mountain climbing, skiing, on an expedition or for a mountaineering course in Iceland, we’ve got you covered!

Pam FIncredible experience - one that should not be missed!
Our trip consisted of the glacier walk and zodiac in the iceberg lagoon. It was an amazing trip! Our guide, Tinna, was so knowledgeable about everything we were seeing and doing. She gave us safety tips on how to walk on the glacier. Helga, our iceberg lagoon guide was equally as knowledgeable! We had a great time and we all agreed that this was a highlight of our trip to Iceland!
yogirtonAwesome glacier walk / zodiac tour
My sister and I booked the combination glacier walk / lagoon boat tour leaving from Skaftafell in South Iceland. Without a doubt the most visually stunning day of my life.
Our guide was extremely well-spoken, knowledgeable, and humorous – we had a fantastic time on the glacier, and he had a lot to say about the science behind glacier formation and cultural attitudes towards global warming in Iceland.
The zodiac tour was simply surreal. The glacial lagoon, where icebergs breaking off from the biggest glacier in Europe fall into the ocean, is otherworldly, with enormous chunks of blue ice floating in crystal clear water. We saw a few seals hanging out on the ice as well.
If you can do this, do it. I’m so excited to tell my future grandkids about the time glaciers still existed on this planet.
