Combine an Ice cave exploration and a glacier walk at Skaftafellsjökull (Skaftafellsjokull glacier).
Fri 09.Oct'20 09:45
On this Ice Cave and Glacier Walk combo tour, you will explore the naturally formed ice caves and ice tunnels of Skaftafellsjökull, before heading off to a glacier walk on crampons around the glacier tongue.
The ice caves, only accessible in winter, open up for exploration when the melt-water underneath the glacier freezes over and leaves behind these ice tunnels. Your experienced guide will tell you more about their formation and show you around the caves. You will get plenty of time to take pictures of these breathtaking surroundings.
You will then head up to the surface of the glacier, where your guide will lead you through the ever-changing glacial landscape. They will show you deep crevasses and unique ice features, whilst teaching you about the behavior of glaciers and their impact on nature.
The drive to Skaftafellsjökull from the starting point in Skaftafell is only 10 minutes, so you will get plenty of time to explore the ice.
Please note that ice caves are a natural phenomena and the conditions can change depending on weather. Your safety is our first priority so sometimes our tours may be canceled with short notice due to weather conditions or safety concerns. If this happens we will always do our best to offer you an alternative tour if weather permits.

In 1994, a group of Icelanders with a passion for nature, adventure and environmental advocacy started an outdoor adventure company to take people from around the world on tours of a lifetime. As the originators of the Glacier Walk in Iceland, they revolutionized the outdoor adventure scene. Since the beginning, Icelandic Mountain Guides has been owned and operated by guides and we continue to set the standard in safety, mountaineering expertise, and environmental protection across the industry in Iceland.
We operate from our company headquarters in Reykjavík and our base camp in the beautiful Skaftafell National Park year round. Whether you want to go hiking, backpacking, trekking, ice climbing, on a glacier walk, mountain climbing, skiing, on an expedition or for a mountaineering course in Iceland, we’ve got you covered!
nishana iIce cave and glacier walk!
The trip was amazing, we had the best time ever! Our guide was awesome and very genuine, will definitely recommend Henry to anyone. On our first day of tour, there was a bad snowstorm and we were really worried about our itinerary. But Henry was a superb driver and changed things around so we could do both the ice caves and glacier walk. The ice caves were so beautiful and out of this world. The glacier walk was truly amazing too. This tour was definitely one of the highlights of our trip and is highly recommended for any Iceland winter traveler.
