Rebecca SGlacier Super Jeep tour: Great way to explore Vatnajokull!!
There were 12 people going up to the glacier, of which eight were going for the snowmobiling and four of us for the jeep tour. The ride up to the glacier took about 40 minutes on a really scenic and crazy winding “F” road. Lots of great views into valleys and into the glacier. We drove off to the glacier and rode for about 7 km through thick, really deep snow. It was a bumpy and sliding trip but we eventually arrived at an edge of the glacier where we could view the valley below and mountains across. Beautiful and stunning!! The wind was blowing heavily and we were being hit with ice and sleet, and it was fun! We made two other stops in the cold, blustery weather but came out of it with some great photos and a lot of fun! We were on the glacier well over an hour.
Steve MTon of fun
We had a great time on this tour – granted, there wasn’t much talking, which bothers some reviewers. This was a chance to ride snowmobiles on the 3rd largest glacier in the world – not a history lesson for us. The ride up the mountain was part of the adventure – rough road, crazy big van – quite fun for me, a little less for some. They provided MOST of the gear you need; their website is misleading. You need glasses, or goggles. Wear waterproof clothing underneath. They also didn’t have giant suits, so if you’re a really big guy – it could be a little tricky. Had to wear my coat on the outside. That being said, seeing the glacier was awesome – and the skidoo snowmobiles were new and great. You basically ride in 6 km, then take pictures, talk a bit, then ride back. The storm made it difficult to see much – but added to the adventure for us. I would do this again, although I understand the frustration expressed by others – it just wasn’t a problem for us. Just pay attention to the gear part and you’ll be fine.
