Kvíárjökull glacier tongue is flowing down the south site of the Öræfajökull glacier. It is quite steep and in front of the glacier edge is a small glacial lagoon that has been forming there for the past decades.
The surroundings of the glacier is quite spectacular because of the great terminal moraine hills around there. The front of the terminal moraines shows how big the glacier was in the beginning of the last century. The terminal moraine on the east side of the river Kvíá is called Kambmýrarkambur, around 129 m high and on the west side of the river is the Kvíármýrarkambur around 150 m. The landscape is spectacular and a very good place to have a short stop.
