There are specific spots for mobile homes, good access to electricity, cooking facilities, wireless internet connection, washing facilities and a playground.

Myllulækur campsite, This beautiful location is only 10 minutes away from Höfn. It offers a panoramic view of the stunning mountains all around and the Vatnajökull glacier. You can buy fishing license and go fishing in the lake Þveit which is only 2 minutes walking distance from the campsite.

Vestrahorn campsite, where you can camp at the foot of Vestrahorn mountain. This stunning location is only 18 minutes away from Höfn. It offers a panoramic view of the majestic peaks, the black sand beach and the Atlantic ocean. You can watch the sunrise and sunset over the horizon, or marvel at the northern lights on a clear night. Explore the hiking trails, visit the Viking village or take a walk on the beach.

Haukafell is the local forestry and a popular outdoor area of the local people of the Vatnajokull Region with many hiking trails. Haukafell is East of Fláajökull glacier and was established in 1985 when the local forestry society started planting in the area. A campsite is in Haukafell with good washing facilities. And a possibility to Rent a Tent.

The facilities and area is open for camping from beginning of April until the end of September.

The campground in Skaftafell is open all year round. Entrance to the campground is located on the west side (see map).

The campground reception is located next to the entrance gate during summer. During winter the camground reception is located in the Visitor Centre. Visitors should register there prior to camping. Campground opening hours are:

May: 8:00-23:00
June – August: 7:30-23:00
September: 8:00-23:00

Vehicle entry is only allowed during these hours.

The campground in Skaftafell has room for about 400 tents. There are not designated pitches so no reservations can be made (but don‘t worry, we never run out of space).
A section is reserved for campers and camping trailers, with access to electricity. Reservations can be made for groups only.
Showers are located in a building next to the visitor centre and a building in the middle of the campsite. The showers are operated by Service Cards that can be purchased in an automat in the visitor centre. The automat is accessible 24 hrs but a credit/debit card with a PIN-number is needed.
A washing machine and a dryer are located in a building next to the visitor centre.
No indoor dining or cooking facilities are available for campground visitors. Dish washing can be done in kitchen sinks next to the service buildings.
A 3G mobile network covers the campground. Wireless internet is available in the visitor centre.

Please note that Vatnajökull National Park does not offer any equipment rental.

Svínafell campground offer sleeping-bag accommodation in heated cabins/huts, a basin with cold running water, electric kettle, cutlery and crockery for up to four people. The guests have access to the service building, Skáli, next to the cabins, where there are minimal cooking facilities, small electricity stoves, a refrigerator and hot water for dish-washing. There are tables and chairs to seat 80 people. There are also toilets and showers in the service building and these facilities are shared with guests in tents, camping cars and caravans.

The six cabins/huts on the camping site and the service building Skáli are open from 1/5 – 30/9. Other rooms are open year around except during some holidays. Over the wintertime the reception is in Suðurbær.

Svínafell campground also offers camping. All guests on the camping site have access to the service building Skáli (bathrooms/showers and cooking facilities where the guests use their own utensils for cooking and eating). We do not take reservations in advance for camping spaces. Electricity for camping cars or caravans is not available.
